Volunteers to the Rescue As anyone who has built a home knows, everything doesn't always go according to plan. Such was the case this past Monday. There was a slight glitch when it was determined that there wasn't a driver available to deliver the roof shingles. Not surprisingly, our regular Crew drove to Lowes and loaded up the Habitat truck. As a result of everyone’s patience and efforts, most of the front roof has been shingled and the soffits installed.
Pastor Betty Gibbons and Reverend David Stoner and his son Josh assisted the regular Crew with our new build as well; we are grateful to have been able to honor Martin Luther King Day with faith-based volunteers.
There are many ways to help without picking up a hammer! Many people are anxious to help build a Habitat
home. The problem is, they don't know the difference between a shingle and a soffit! Tomorrow,
the Navy volunteer group will assist in shingling the roof. The Construction Crew will be working on the remaining
soffits. Deacon Emily, an NOHFH Board member, has coordinated her Interfaith Diversity Group to bring soup and sandwiches
for all of the workers! Our Construction Crew and volunteers are on
site every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. A good lunch or some hot coffee will always be appreciated. So, if building is
not your thing, take a page from Deacon Emily's book. Organize a group to provide food to our crews.
Below is a picture of the delicious lunch! |
