"A Brush With Kindness" Reflections from Caitlyn Grimaldi
Manchester Township Habitat for Humanity Chapter President
On April 10, 2010, Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity
and the Manchester Township High School Habitat for Humanity Chapter worked together on a new project called "A Brush
With Kindness". In addition, the Manchester Habitat for Humanity chapter worked side by side with their sponsor the Lakehurst-Manchester
Rotary Club. This new program known as ABWK was started in order to aid the community more frequently through sprucing up
the houses and yards of "need-based" families.
During
the sunny morning, volunteers and students worked together on a 21 Plus home. "21 Plus", provides diversified opportunities
to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities through a strategic plan. Jobs on the house included cutting down
trees and bushes, repairing fences, planting flowers, weeding and raking. The students and volunteers were divided into groups
of about 3 or more and working diligently and efficiently, they completed the yard work by the early afternoon. All of the
debris from the jobes were removed from the house and driven to the dump by volunteers.
The day was a huge success and we are looking forward to serving our community with similar projects
in the future.
